¡Una semana grande! – Week Dos - BP 007
El baloncesto
Un juego magnificoOvertime bball
Some of you may be wondering why I’ve decided to write a traditional form of Japanese poetry in Spanish. Some of you may be wondering why I’m writing in Spanish at all. The answer my friends, is that I like poetry, I wear bow ties (see picture below), and I do what I want.
Reply back in the comments with a better poem (any style you desire) and get the chance to win a really cool prize, like a VIP spot at the front of the water fountain line.
Anyways, back to the action. Oh boy, what a fine day of basketball we had last weekend. With some close games interrupted by a minor blowout, Week 2 saw some of Overtime Basketball’s best continue their hot starts. Let’s get to the matchups.

Ray and Rich celebrating after dropping the "BOMB" on the squad
The early matchup, a game featuring several high scorers, had some great individual offensive performances. David “Can He” Ri“lly Be Stopped?” and Rich “Ach”Tung faced off against the deadly long-ranged bomber, James “Chump” Choi. In a game where Chump seemed to literally shoot the leather off the ball, David Ri and “Ach”Tung resolutely replied with a combined 50 points. Ri, dropping 27, scored 10 buckets on 16 attempts and was a perfect 4/4 from the line while “Ach”Tung converted 8/10 FTs and shot 50% from the field. Ray “Big Baby/Ben Wallace/Kevin Love” Lee pulled down 17 boards (almost eclipsing Bomb Squad’s 19 total REBs) and is currently averaging 16.5 rebounds per game. James Choi scored a league high 7 threes, while shooting a league high 16.
In a game that featured a key missing link in the absence of Dani Kim, Royal Flush put together a solid game from their big 3. Mark Lee, Bada “Ocean” Hong and Austin Han contributed 17, 10, and 15 points, respectively. Mark also added 8 assists, Bada “Ocean” grabbed 11 boards and Austin knocked down 3 trifectas. DB Isonation put forth a spirited effort, but they were missing the hustle plays of Kim down the stretch. Chris Youn put up his usual double-double with 10 points and 14 REBs and Austen Park just missed the mark at 9 and 9. Royal Flush's half court pressure defense sealed the deal in this one.
Team NYCE got their first win from a packed 10-player squad of CRBJ. NYCE got a huge all-around game from Peter Park"er" aka “Spiderman”, who put up 12/10/4 and is currently averaging a league leading 4 blocks per game. Ace Wan aka “Mr. New York” dished out 5 assists to go with his 12 points. For CRBJ, most of the offense ran through Jung Hwan Choi and Hae Chon Kim who scored a combined 18 points on a total of 29 shots. Jung Hwan Choi also had 11 boards and 5 steals, but the team struggled from the free throw line, going 1-11.
In conclusion, we’re 2 for 2. Yep, Week 2 was another illustrious entry into the Overtime Basketball annals.
Looking forward to this weekend’s sure-to-be sensational action. See you all there. In the words of a dear friend, “"¡Andale! ¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba! ¡Yii-hah!” – Speedy Gonzales

THE START OF SOMETHING SPECIAL - BP 007
Week 1 is officially in the books, and what a weekend of action in CK Sports Overtime basketball! The teams came ready to go and the action was fast and furious. We had a tightly-contested, Double-OT game sandwiched between two blowout victories by Royal Flush and Bomb Squad. While each team has only played a single game, who do you think separated themselves as the cream of the crop? Comment below. Let’s hear some predictions on who’s going to win the ‘ship this season.
Week 1 Breakdown:
Royal Flush (58) v CRBJ (34)
Player of the Game: Mark Lee 29 pts, 7 asts, 2 stls, 4/8 3pt
Mark Lee aka Super 8, represented well in the first game in his brand spanking new league. Excitedly nervous before the games began, Mark’s trademark laugh could be heard echoing across the court. But as soon as the ball was tipped, Marky was all business. Bombing away from long range, driving and dishing to the tune of 7 assists, Mark was in the zone against CRBJ. Paul Cho also had a solid first game for Royal Flush, corralling 7 boards and putting up 10 points. CRBJ was paced by the solid play of Hae Cheon and Jincheol Kim who combined for 20 pts on 8/11 shooting.
GAME OF THE WEEK:
Player of the Game: Chris Youn 26 pts, 15 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls
In a back-and-forth affair that ended in the second overtime, DB Isonation eked out the gutsy W. Chris Youn, aka SLAM, was huge for DB Iso. Scoring 26 pts and grabbing 15 boards, Youn looked like a slightly sexier version of Kevin Love. If this performance doesn’t get him another feature in this month’s SLAM, well then I’m going to have to make a few phone calls. Dan Kim chipped in with 9 rebounds (and 13 pts) as DB Iso won the battle of the boards, and ultimately, the game. Strong Island got strong performances by David Ri, Joe Lee and Ray Lee, who scored 26, 12 and 7, respectively. Ray also did his best Kevin Love impression with 16 boards.
Bomb Squad (58) v Team NYCE (29)
Player of the Game: James Choi 21 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stlsIn a game that was never in doubt, Bomb Squad’s James “Chump” Choi may have put himself in the early conversation for MVP. Surrounded by a throng of reporters in the locker room, Chump was reluctant to take credit for his great game. “I owe it to the fine play of all my teammates. They set me up and I knock ‘em down. It’s like dominoes out there.” Indeed Mr. Choi, indeed. Dropping 21 and shooting 7/12 FGs with four 3-pointers, Chump was his usual high-scoring self. Mike Song and John Lim pitched in to contribute 28 points and 14 rebounds. On the other side of the ball, Ace Wan put up 17 pts and Peter Park pulled down 10 boards.

Which team will win this season?
December 3rd, 2010... Just another day on the calendar?
Not quite. For the 6 teams participating in the inaugural edition of CK Sports Overtime Basketball, December 3rd represents the tip-off of what promises to be an amazing season of hoops. The schedule is set, and the action is sure to be intense. Blood, sweat, and tears will be shed. Stars will be born. Nicknames will be earned. Rivalries will be renewed. And, a select few will elevate their games to a level reserved for the legends.
So, beyond all the hype, what can you expect from CK Sports Basketball? Well, games will consist of two 22 minute halves, with running time until the last 2 minutes of the second half. We'll have two of the best refs in the biz calling the fouls and making sure you don't hold the ball longer than the 30-seconds allowed by the shot clock. There will be 8 regular season games followed by single elimination playoffs. And, expect to hit the court sporting fresh unis featuring NBA and NCAA-style color schemes.

Your favorite shirt is ?
Yep, our first season is shaping up to be truly special. Like Blake Griffin, we're coming out of the gate fast and only plan on getting bigger and better (scary, I know). I'm not sure about you, but I'm ready.
See you December 3rd. P.s. - Come at 8pm for our Opening Ceremony!
