Some of you may be wondering why I’ve decided to write a traditional form of Japanese poetry in Spanish. Some of you may be wondering why I’m writing in Spanish at all. The answer my friends, is that I like poetry, I wear bow ties (see picture below), and I do what I want.

Anyways, back to the action. Oh boy, what a fine day of basketball we had last weekend. With some close games interrupted by a minor blowout, Week 2 saw some of Overtime Basketball’s best continue their hot starts. Let’s get to the matchups.
Ray and Rich celebrating after dropping the "BOMB" on the squad |
The early matchup, a game featuring several high scorers, had some great individual offensive performances. David “Can He” Ri“lly Be Stopped?” and Rich “Ach”Tung faced off against the deadly long-ranged bomber, James “Chump” Choi. In a game where Chump seemed to literally shoot the leather off the ball, David Ri and “Ach”Tung resolutely replied with a combined 50 points. Ri, dropping 27, scored 10 buckets on 16 attempts and was a perfect 4/4 from the line while “Ach”Tung converted 8/10 FTs and shot 50% from the field. Ray “Big Baby/Ben Wallace/Kevin Love” Lee pulled down 17 boards (almost eclipsing Bomb Squad’s 19 total REBs) and is currently averaging 16.5 rebounds per game. James Choi scored a league high 7 threes, while shooting a league high 16.
In a game that featured a key missing link in the absence of Dani Kim, Royal Flush put together a solid game from their big 3. Mark Lee, Bada “Ocean” Hong and Austin Han contributed 17, 10, and 15 points, respectively. Mark also added 8 assists, Bada “Ocean” grabbed 11 boards and Austin knocked down 3 trifectas. DB Isonation put forth a spirited effort, but they were missing the hustle plays of Kim down the stretch. Chris Youn put up his usual double-double with 10 points and 14 REBs and Austen Park just missed the mark at 9 and 9. Royal Flush's half court pressure defense sealed the deal in this one.
Team NYCE got their first win from a packed 10-player squad of CRBJ. NYCE got a huge all-around game from Peter Park"er" aka “Spiderman”, who put up 12/10/4 and is currently averaging a league leading 4 blocks per game. Ace Wan aka “Mr. New York” dished out 5 assists to go with his 12 points. For CRBJ, most of the offense ran through Jung Hwan Choi and Hae Chon Kim who scored a combined 18 points on a total of 29 shots. Jung Hwan Choi also had 11 boards and 5 steals, but the team struggled from the free throw line, going 1-11.
In conclusion, we’re 2 for 2. Yep, Week 2 was another illustrious entry into the Overtime Basketball annals.
Looking forward to this weekend’s sure-to-be sensational action. See you all there. In the words of a dear friend, “"¡Andale! ¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba! ¡Yii-hah!” – Speedy Gonzales
