THE START OF SOMETHING SPECIAL - BP 007

Week 1 is officially in the books, and what a weekend of action in CK Sports Overtime basketball! The teams came ready to go and the action was fast and furious. We had a tightly-contested, Double-OT game sandwiched between two blowout victories by Royal Flush and Bomb Squad. While each team has only played a single game, who do you think separated themselves as the cream of the crop? Comment below. Let’s hear some predictions on who’s going to win the ‘ship this season.

Week 1 Breakdown:

Royal Flush (58) v CRBJ (34)
Player of the Game: Mark Lee 29 pts, 7 asts, 2 stls, 4/8 3pt
Mark Lee aka Super 8, represented well in the first game in his brand spanking new league. Excitedly nervous before the games began, Mark’s trademark laugh could be heard echoing across the court. But as soon as the ball was tipped, Marky was all business. Bombing away from long range, driving and dishing to the tune of 7 assists, Mark was in the zone against CRBJ. Paul Cho also had a solid first game for Royal Flush, corralling 7 boards and putting up 10 points. CRBJ was paced by the solid play of Hae Cheon and Jincheol Kim who combined for 20 pts on 8/11 shooting.

GAME OF THE WEEK:
DB Isonation (55) v Strong Island (53)
Player of the Game: Chris Youn 26 pts, 15 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls
In a back-and-forth affair that ended in the second overtime, DB Isonation eked out the gutsy W. Chris Youn, aka SLAM, was huge for DB Iso. Scoring 26 pts and grabbing 15 boards, Youn looked like a slightly sexier version of Kevin Love. If this performance doesn’t get him another feature in this month’s SLAM, well then I’m going to have to make a few phone calls. Dan Kim chipped in with 9 rebounds (and 13 pts) as DB Iso won the battle of the boards, and ultimately, the game. Strong Island got strong performances by David Ri, Joe Lee and Ray Lee, who scored 26, 12 and 7, respectively. Ray also did his best Kevin Love impression with 16 boards.

Bomb Squad (58) v Team NYCE (29)
Player of the Game: James Choi 21 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 2 stls
In a game that was never in doubt, Bomb Squad’s James “Chump” Choi may have put himself in the early conversation for MVP. Surrounded by a throng of reporters in the locker room, Chump was reluctant to take credit for his great game. “I owe it to the fine play of all my teammates. They set me up and I knock ‘em down. It’s like dominoes out there.” Indeed Mr. Choi, indeed. Dropping 21 and shooting 7/12 FGs with four 3-pointers, Chump was his usual high-scoring self. Mike Song and John Lim pitched in to contribute 28 points and 14 rebounds. On the other side of the ball, Ace Wan put up 17 pts and Peter Park pulled down 10 boards.
