It’s officially halfway through the season and not a lot has been cleared up. Standings wise there is a log jam in the middle of the pack teams at 2-2, 2-1. It is clear though NYCE is the best team in the league, people might disagree but their record says it all at 4-0 and they remain the only undefeated in the league. Building chemistry time is over now, 2nd half is where you show what you got going into the REAL season, playoffs. No more excuses, let’s finish out strong OVERTIMERS. Congrats to those that made the All-Star ballot, everyone go to the website and vote for those you think deserve it. Check the recaps for Week 4, Week 3 recaps will be up once the makeup game for Week 3 is done.

ISO vs RF(RF 70 – ISO 68)
ISO was looking to stay undefeated while RF was looking to bounce back after a tough game\loss the previous night. Both teams have shown they’re capable of scoring in bunches and this game was going to be a high scoring affair.RF was led once again by Mark Lee with 30 pts and 4 ast while Kwon Lim and Richard Tung added 14 and 12 pts respectively with Bada Hong cleaning the glass with 16 reb.
ISO was lights out from the 3 pt line with James Choi scoring 23 pts and Daniel Kim 15 pts, with a combined 12-21 from distance. Chris Youn had another double-double with 18 pts 10 reb.
In what was one of the highest scoring games we’ve seen this year. RF squeaked by in a very closely contested game with both teams exchanging leads throughout the whole game. Both teams hit big shots down the stretch to force an OT. In the OT in a tie ball game with 7 sec remaining Mark Lee would get fouled making a move to the basket resulting in 2 FTs to put RF up 70-68. ISO would call a timeout to setup a play. They would get an open look which would just rim out. RF would escape with the victory while ISO would suffer its first loss.
NYCE vs EL8(NYCE 57 – EL8 54)
NYCE vs EL8 showcased two of the top teams in the league with both coming into this game undefeated and considered top tier teams. A tough game for both and a possible late round playoff matchup.NYCE may have had the hype about a big 3 but Elite 8 had a big 3 of their own too. EL8s’ big 3 led the way with Tim Chi 13 pts 6 reb, Jake Choi 11 pts 3 reb 3 ast, and Steve Hong 15 pts 9 reb 3 ast.
NYCE was led for the 4th straight game by Eddie Wang with 17 pts, Elitar Kim had 15 pts 6 reb for his second consecutive solid game. Jay Yee had a near miss double-double with 9 pts 9 reb to go with 2 blk.
EL8 came in with their full roster as they’re one of the deepest teams in the league while NYCE came in shorthanded and miss two key players in Ace Wan and Mike Kim. They still however had Eddie Wang and picked up subs Jay Yee and John “GJR” Park for the game. This game didn’t disappoint as it was a back and forth game and close throughout as you would expect from two top teams going at each other. NYCE remains perfect and EL8 takes its’ first loss, this game however could have gone either way. NYCE received nice games from there subs but I’m sure the league would’ve like to have seen full squads play each other.

HTB vs SMP(HTB 56 – SMP 31)
Just as we had the battle of the unbeatens, this game was the battle of the winless. Both teams had come in struggling and desperately searching for that first W. Something would have to give in this game.HTB saw a breakout game from Moon-Hwan Yun with 20 pts 8 reb 3 stl 3 blk. Those who have seen before knew he was capable but it was a matter when HTB was going to find out he was. Peter Song and Peter Myung were hawks on defense, both finishing with 5 stl each.
SMP uses a balanced attack and were led by Simon Hong 7 pts 4 reb and Eddie Kim 6 pts 3 ast. SMP still needs that explosive scorer or to utilize the transition game. A balanced attack is only good if you’re all making shots and the easiest shots come in transition.
HTB controlled this game throughout and never looked back. They finally looked to use Moon-Hwan Yun as a weapon and work inside out instead of the opposite way around. Despite a quiet game from David Ri, HTB was still able to pull out the win. SMP has to take better care of the ball as 32 TOs is wasting a lot of chances to score. It’s better to take a bad shot at least then to turn it over. SMP remains winless while HTB may be building momentum.
HLO vs UN(HLO 56 – UN 44)
Both these teams have shown promise but both have shown inconsistency which is why they’re part of that jam in the middle of the standings. This is a pretty even matchup except for HLO having a few more veterans than UN.HLO without big man George Chan needed someone to step up and Kevin Chin did with 17 pts and 8 reb. James Choi also had himself a solid game with 14 pts 5 ast 3 reb along with Chris Choi being 1 pt shy of a double-double with 9 pts 11 reb 2 blk.
UN would also be missing a big man in Vick Manocha. Mike Song had his usual game with 19 pts 8 reb like it’s just another day’s work. Kenny Jang had himself a strong game with 13 pts and 6 reb.
This was another closely contested game even though the score may not show it. This was close through out until the end when it seemed like UN started to lose it’s composure and started to turn the ball over which led to easy buckets for HLO. HLO is going to be a lot to handle when they have their full roster and UN needs some leadership to help them keep their composure and stay calm when they get down by a decent margin.
